The warmth and beauty that marble adds to a home or office is hard to beat. Although marble seems to be very expensive due to the elegance it adds it is often much cheaper that most people seem to believe.

There is something about marble that is at once warm and luxurious, and a marble kitchen or foyer simply shouts sophistication to all who enter the home.

One of the most common places where marble is used is the entrance to a home or office.

Marble floors and marble countertops are becoming increasingly popular in many kitchen remodeling projects. Of the many reasons for choosing marble during a remodeling project of course remains the value increase to the property as well as the enjoyment of those living or working there.

Marble is a limestone that has re-crystallized at a high temperature therefore being a metamorphic rock. The world’s most famous marble comes from Italy – example Bianca Carrara and from Greece – example Thassos White, but in fact, marble of similar quality can also be found elsewhere in the world.

USAGE

Because of the wide variety of light colours, marble is ideally used for vanity tops in bathrooms. Marble can also be used for tiling of floors, tombstones and reception tops. Marble can also be used for kitchen tops but only for a decorative purpose due to the soft nature of the stone.

POROSITY

Because marble is a softer stone it is recommended that it be sealed at least once every couple of years depending on the work load to prevent any absorption or staining.

SCRATCHING AND HEAT RESISTANCE

Through our experience we have found that marble scratches easily when cutting on. We have also found it safe to place hot pots directly onto the marble without the top cracking. Please note however that this is no guarantee that it will never happen.
